In Which Situations and Who Needs Nose Reconstruction?
One of the most common situations in which nasal reconstruction is needed is tissue loss resulting from the removal of skin tumors on the nose. The nose, which is frequently exposed to the sun with its protruding structure, is one of the places where skin cancers are frequently seen.
The nose is also a target in cases such as traffic accidents. Therefore, accidents also lead to the loss of nasal tissues.
Nose repair can also be caused by congenital causes. The fact that the person was born with congenital nasal tissue loss necessitated nasal reconstruction. Although it is similar to rhinoplasty operation, rhinoplasty is mostly performed with aesthetic concerns, health concerns are more prominent in nose reconstruction operations.
Nose Reconstruction Surgery and Recovery Process
Nasal reconstruction surgery is performed under general anesthesia. In addition, in case of minor tissue loss, local anesthesia can be used instead of general anesthesia. Depending on the loss of nasal tissues, the duration of the operation varies between 1 and 5 hours.
It may be recommended that the person rests in the hospital for two or three days after the surgery. Special silicone pads can be placed inside the nose, it can take 2-3 weeks for these pads to come out. If necessary, a second nose reconstruction operation can be performed one month later.
